Articles on Correctional Medical Services Inc.,
& Prison Health Services

In the past 7 years over 900+ news articles have been written on Correctional Medical Services, Inc., (CMS) and /or Prison Health Services (PHS), the two largest Correctional HMOs in the country that contract with State Departments of Correction to deliver healthcare services to inmates within the State Departments of Correction. Your tax dollars pay for these Prison HMO healthcare contracts.

The "number one" spot fluctuates between CMS or PHS depending on contracts lost and gained across the country.

Prison HMOs deliver medical care provided by "contract" physicians hired and assigned to local (primarily) State prison and jail facilities. These physicians can be recruited at a comparatively low cost, some are highly inexperienced and most all are system intimidated physicians.

Incarcerated patients incur both permanent medical disabilities or die. Counter to diagnosis and treatment recommendations of CMS unaffiliated 'outside' physician specialists. Medical records compromised and misrepresented in pursuit of cost-reduction. Documented? Yes. Pervasive? Yes. A function of Prison HMO policy and procedures nationwide? Yes. Perceived culpability is vested in Prison HMOs and your State Departments of Correction. And relatedly for the collective "they", reflective of budget considerations, a "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" mentality.

Inappropriately treated diabetes, untreated Stage IV wounds, broken bones inappropriately treated, if treated at all, unnecessary amputations due to non-treatment of diabetes, spider bites and infections, withheld medications, inappropriate medications administered, heart conditions treated with Maalox, cancer treated with Robitussin, nurses posing as doctors, and altered medical records.
